The Hillman Camp with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms is located just outside the village of Saranac Lake at the point
where the Saranac River enters Lake Flower.
The house sits close to the point, accessed by a good driveway which descends
comfortably toward the water. The land mark is the glacial errata, a huge granite twostory
rock perched at the bottom of the driveway, hiding the house in front. A board
walkway leads around the rock and down to the cottage, a two- bedroom, two-bath
cottage with a glassed porch, fronting toward the water. The inside is natural wood, with
a large central room with a kitchen area, living area, dining area, and then the large
porch across the front. There are two bedrooms and two baths. It is a comfortable spot
with a place to launch kayaks onto the water, to swim, and to dock a boat. Just less
than one acre, the property is a natural woods habitat for deer, otter, muskrat, and many
shore birds. There are rare plants near the bog. Indian Pipes, Ladies Slipper, Shamrock
and wild types of Viburnum are sprinkled in hidden areas through the woods.
The view is spectacular with 200+ feet of waterfront on Lake Flower, toward the town of
Saranac Lake in one direction and across the lake to Kiwassa and Branch Farm Road
in the other. Around the point. the river narrows into a waterway which extends 35
miles, as far as Upper Saranac Lake. Canoe carry trips from miles away follow the
lakes and the river and end up in Saranac Lake, including the 90 mile out of Old Forge.
A bass tournament is held on these water regularly. Proximity to the AuSable River is
good for early morning trout fishing.
Located seven miles out of Lake Placid and across the lake from Saranac Lake, it is
convenient for all the activities. A boat trip of ten minutes across the lake brings you to
the village park in Saranac Lake, where you can dock your boat and head to a local
restaurant. The state boat launch is at the park. Kayaks and boats can access the
Saranac River below the dam for a trip down the river towards Lake Champlain.
A 15 minute ride by car will take you to Lake Placid and the lakes and activities there.
The training center for the Olympic games with the ski jumps, the arena, and the offices
of ORDA are there, as well as the venue for the New York State and International Horse
Shows which run consecutively in June and July. Athletes are regularly in training there
for the games. An Ironman Marathon is held during July.
The land would be good for building a year round house and using the existing one for a
guest cottage, or for adding on to the present building with a second story and a wing,
with perfect siting on the lake.
